چکیده

A non-destructive testing procedure is proposed for damage detection in composites using full wavefield measurement obtained a scanning laser Doppler vibrometer. Vibrations are excited two low-power piezoelectric actuators leading to nonlinear elastic wave modulation at the defect. One actuator supplied with broadband chirp signal and other single-frequency sine signal. First, time–frequency filtering method extract specific components of interest (e.g. second higher harmonic first sideband) without need multiple excitation sequences. Next, maps constructed bandpower calculation filtered components. It demonstrated that sidebands provide an exclusive imaging defect nonlinearity, not affected by potential source nonlinearity. The map construction applied various carbon fiber reinforced polymer test specimens different features: (1) coupon quasi-static indentation damage, (2) artificial delaminations, (3) bicycle frame impact (4) stiffened aircraft panel partially debonded stiffener. results indicate high performance developed types curved and/or

Nondestructive evaluation of corrosion damage of Al-alloys by in-situ AE monitoring and nonlinear elastic wave spectroscopy testing

Significant amount of corrosion damage was revealed during recent complete inspections of airplane structures after years of service. The corrosion damage was located inside airplane’s hull and remained undetected until reaching hull’s outer surface. Therefore a demand for means of timely detection and non-destructive evaluation of corrosion damage arose. This work investigates the possibilitie...

Homogenization of nonlinear visco-elastic composites

Quasi-static processes in nonlinear visco-elastic materials of solid-type are here represented by the system: σ −B(x) : ∂ε ∂t ∈ β(ε, x), −divσ = f , (∗) coupled with initial and boundary conditions. Here σ denotes the stress tensor, ε the linearized strain tensor, B(x) the viscosity tensor, β(·, x) a (possibly multi-valued) maximal monotone mapping, and f an applied load. Existence and uniquene...

Dissipative elastic metamaterials for broadband wave mitigation at subwavelength scale

In this paper, an elastic metamaterial with multiple dissipative resonators is presented for broadband wave mitigation by properly utilizing interactions from resonant motions and viscoelastic effects of the constitutive material. The working mechanism of the metamaterial to suppress broadband waves is clearly revealed in a dissipative mass-in-mass lattice system through both negative effective...

Application of Non-linear Elastic Wave Spectroscopy (news) to in Vitro Damage Assessment in Cortical Bone

This chapter reviews recent experimental findings applying non-linear dynamical techniques, termed non-linear elastic wave spectroscopy (NEWS), to infer progressive mechanical damage in human bone, in vitro. Standard measures of bone mechanical properties are compared where possible, including the quasi-statically derived stiffness and hysteresis. The goal is to explore whether or not the metho...

Elastic Wave Emission from Damage Processes

The theory of elastic wave emission (i.e., acoustic emission; AE) from damage processes such as slip and microcracking is discussed. Analogous developments in the literature on earthquake seismology and dynamic dislocation theory are noted and utilized. A general representation of the displacement field of an AE event is given in terms of the double-couple response to a distribution of "moment ...
